Wood Duck Nesting Boxes

A new and ongoing project we have embarked on in 2011 is the
building, erection and maintenance of Wood Duck Boxes in
many of the area wetlands.  As most of you know the Duck
populations in the northern parts of Frontenac - Addington are
extremely low as compared to the hay day of the 1980's.  One
small group of volunteers can't bring them back to those levels
but everything positive you can do is sure a help

(Pictured here are some hard working volunteers biulding
some Duck Boxes in February so that we can have them
installed before the ice goes out this spring)
Frontenac-Addington Trappers Council 2010/2011 News Letter

Good day Trappers.  Where has the summer gone.  As I write this we are all already
thinking of the fall hunting seasons coming up and of course the 2010/2011 trapping
season.   The forecasts for our pelt prices doesn’t sound too exciting again this year, but
we all have our special reasons why we trap anyway so I encourage everyone to stay the
course and keep our Industry and Traditions alive across the globe.  The best way of
course to help yourself is to stick together and keep your council and the O.F.M.F strong
to speak for you in the future.
To recap some of our projects since the last news letter

Our first meeting this season will be December 8, 2010.  We will gather fur to ship to
Northbay.  Our guest speaker will be a representative from “Ducks Unlimited” to talk
about their work and how we may be able to become involved in helping our declining
duck populations.  Hopefully we can get Steve McNevin who is our new fur technician
(replacing Eugene) for the Kingston area to attend and get acquainted with him.  Also at
that meeting we need to conduct our elections, so if you or someone you know would like
to help out as our executive please step up.  As you know old horses tire out after awhile.
Again this year we will have an attendance draw for the season.  Every meeting you
attend gives you another chance to win.  Last season the prize was a trail camera.
“HELP”  In November immediately after deer season (date to be set) we will need
volunteers to help again with more Boundry creek spawning bed rehab work in 2011
(pending MNR approval), call Wilf (613 336 8359) if you can give us a hand.

There are lots of concerns, topic’s and projects out there to look at.  Please attend the
meetings and bring them to everybody's  attention.
